OF SHADOW

Andres Ortiz explores the delicate intersection of identity, technology, and perception. Using AI as both tool and collaborator, he creates portraits of people that feel suspended between the real and the unreal — luminous, weightless, and quietly powerful.

Stripped of shadow yet rich in presence, each image invites the viewer to reconsider beauty, visibility, and the boundaries of representation.

WHERE LIGHT
BEGINS

In 2011, I had the opportunity to carry out my social service internship in Russia. It was a deeply transformative experience where I worked with approximately 250 homeless children. My role was to share my knowledge and life experiences with them, and, unexpectedly, one day a camera ended up in my hands.

From that moment on, during my free time, I began to play around with photography, capturing the faces of all those children I spent my days with.

As time went by, I realized that something within me had awakened—a desire to preserve forever some of those gazes, those faces full of stories. That’s how my passion for portrait photography began, especially half-body portraits, where I could focus on the expression and essence of each person.

After my experience in Russia, the following year I completed my professional internship in Austria, at a tourism agency. Thanks to my budding photography experience, I was given the chance to present some of my work. That opened the doors for me to take charge of the marketing and quality control areas for the company’s travel services. As a result, I had the opportunity to visit all the countries included in the agency’s packages—around 18 countries at the time. In each destination, I took photographs to create promotional catalogs, which allowed me to further develop my artistic eye and my ability to capture special moments and unique human expressions from all around the world.

And now, the future merges with creativity: with the advancement of artificial intelligence, a new opportunity has emerged. Not only to imagine, but also to create special moments with unique characteristics that could only be realised through this medium; Through this powerful tool, I share my visual projections and fantasies—images born from the soul and imagination.
